“Swamping the guise” is a joint project of two artists, friends, accomplices and like-minded people — Ksenia Markelova and Svetlana Spirina. At the exhibition, they offer the viewer to understand the absurd cipher, formed from more than a dozen works that are placed in non-obvious locations of the Metenkov House. The starting point for coding was the personal photo archives of the artists, merged and distorted beyond recognition. The resulting patterns are figuratively reminiscent of camouflage, but the camouflage system here is of a different kind — social, political and personal. What is hidden behind the endless series of distortions? The answer to this question will help the works built into a narrative, consisting of sculptures, videos, paintings and photographic printing of various forms.
